Refurbished iPad 8th Gen – Good Buy in 2023?
Apple offers various products and they do it better than the other offerings in the market. They offer everything from Airpods to iPads and in my opinion, their offerings are exceptionally well built and premium. That’s why Apple users swear by them, but, the downside to the whole premium thing is that the prices aren’t always affordable especially these days due to the lockdown. Here’s where refurbished devices come in, they offer everything that Apple users love but at a discounted price. If you’re in the market for an iPad in 2023, should you buy a refurbished iPad 8th generation in 2023 or should you wait for the 9th gen? We are going to discuss that and let you know if an Apple refurbished iPad offer value for money.
Let’s get right into it.
Refurbished iPad 9th Generation Rumours
It feels like yesterday Apple launched the iPad 8th gen in September of 2020 with the A12 processor. That was the only major change to this tablet and other than that, it is identical to the iPad 7th gen which came out the year before and now we're already hearing rumours about the 9th gen. Let's go over that sort of rumoured spec sheet here first.
The 9th gen is rumoured to have the same chassis as the iPad Air 3. It might even be a rebranding, to be honest here and of course, it is better looking. It's thinner, it's lighter and it's based on the iPad Air 2 compared to the 8th gen which is based on the iPad Air from 2013.
Beyond the chassis being thinner and lighter the display might also be a bit bigger. The Air has a 10.5-inch panel which might be brought to the budget iPad and it also might remain 10.2 inches. I've heard that as well and on the topic of display i would assume true tone would finally be brought down to this budget iPad and although it's not like a game-changing feature it is nice to have as it does match the colour temperature of your tablet's display which makes the display look more natural and less blue.
Overall, and from what I've heard it's also rumoured to have TouchID just like the 8th gen. So, this will not be like a full-screen tablet like the iPad Air 4. I think Apple wants to designate that sort of pro look to a higher-end iPad (iPad Pro 12.9 refurbished) at least as of right now here so overall I mean fundamentally the design isn't changing too much but it's going to get thinner, lighter and faster due to the upgraded chipset.
Refurbished iPad 8th Gen
Let's talk about a refurbished iPad 8th and what it brings to the table in 2023.
Display
The first thing that pops into my head is that this device has an excellent display. Sure it isn't amazing like that of the iPad Pro or even the iPad Air but I'm very happy with it although I'm accustomed to higher-end devices I would have no problem using this for work, playing games, watching youtube videos and Netflix. It's colourful, it's bright and you know with 60hz everything is really smooth here.
Performance and Multitasking
It is powered by the A12 chip on the inside here which is very capable. I mean, it's more than enough for you, and it's also good enough for some heavier stuff like video editing although you don't want to do a ton of creative work on here because of the space limitations.
It's a very powerful tablet nonetheless. It also supports all the important accessories like the Apple Pencil and it’s my favourite Apple accessory by far which makes this device excellent for the budget. It offers a really smooth experience thanks to the low latency with the Apple pencil and the power of the A12 and although this is no iPad Pro 11", the 10.2-inch display is more than big enough for the work. The display is big enough for split-screen multitasking which is a great feature with an iOS. You can have your Google docs in one window open, a safari in another and of course you can open up another app if you wanted to in a smaller windowed view.

Conclusion
This tablet is fast once again the a12 is an excellent processor that pushes animations and just overall operations really really smoothly here even better of course compared to the 7th gen which had the A10 processor. If you are in the market for a new iPad, you should definitely go for a refurbished one as a refurbished iPad 8th gen offers the same features and everything but with a discounted price which is great.
