What Is Apple Care? Everything You Need to Know
Apple devices are costly; likewise, their repairs aren't light on the pocket. To tackle this issue, Apple offers several AppleCare warranty plans to tackle this issue to give you additional peace of mind.
These plans include Apple's standard limited warranty that comes free with every Apple product and the paid AppleCare+ plan.
In this post, you'll find out what each AppleCare & AppleCare+ Australia warranty plan covers and how much they cost for different Apple devices.
So without further ado, let's dive in.
What Is Apple Care?
Typically Apple products come with a free one-year warranty and three months of technical support. For most people, this coverage needs to be improved, and they want a more extended range, and this is where AppleCare jumps in with the additional warranty.
The AppleCare warranty plans are helpful in case anything goes wrong with your device within the coverage period. Having AppleCare for your device, Apple will charge you a small amount for fixes, and you can also seek technical support for a longer duration.
Apple Care vs. Apple Care Plus vs. Standard Warranty
Warranty plans from Apple come in three forms. One is the standard warranty that comes with every Apple product, and the rest are AppleCare Plus and AppleCare Protection Plan.
How do these plans differ regarding coverage period, price, and the devices they cover? Let's explore them one at a time.
AppleCare
With a simple AppleCare coverage, you get repair service for one year(1 year), given that the issue is unexpected and not caused by the user intentionally or unintentionally. AppleCare is simply another name for Apple's standard warranty.
AppleCare+
AppleCare Plus Australia builds on the basic one-year warranty by providing two years of warranty or three years for some products. But this time, you must pay for it within 60 days of purchasing the product.
Under this plan, you get unlimited repairs for hardware failures and accidental damage at a small price. You also get priority access to Apple's technical support.
This offer also includes coverage for theft or loss but only for iPhones. This type of coverage goes by "AppleCare+ with Theft or Loss" and has extra charges. It covers two incidents of theft or loss by giving you a new iPhone replacement device.
Standard Warranty
AppleCare is a limited one-year warranty for every brand-new Apple product. You don't have to pay extra bucks as it's a free standard warranty that comes with your purchase.
AppleCare Australia also includes 90 days of phone technical support to assist you with setting up your device and fixing software-related issues.
This warranty only applies to damages caused due to defects in hardware materials or faulty manufacturing, and it doesn't cover accidental damage or consumable parts like batteries. Remember that the warranty may become invalid if you get your phone repaired by a third party.
In case something unexpectedly goes wrong with Apple's product during the warranty period, Apple can help you in three ways:
- Fix the product with new genuine parts
- Get you a new product of the same model
- Refund your money in full
AppleCare Features
AppleCare Australia warranty plan provides different types of coverage on your Apple products.
The additional protection you get with the AppleCare plan is as follows:
AppleCare Plus Repairs and Replacement
Under the AppleCare program, you get unlimited device repairs within the coverage period.
If the device in question is an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch, you can also get a replacement device of the same model until your device gets fixed.
Accidental Damage
AppleCare Plus also covers accidental damage at a fixed deductible. The deductible price varies with the device and damage type, and it is also much cheaper than standard repair services outside of the warranty plan.
Starting in September 2022, Apple raised the count of accidental damage repairs from two to unlimited. So if your iPhone 14 faces accidental hardware damage, this plan covers it.
AppleCare Plus Loss or Theft
The Loss or Theft coverage also comes with an additional AppleCare Plus price and only covers iPhones, and it allows for two incidents of theft or loss coverage every 12 months.
Apple gets you a replacement device if your iPhone goes missing with Find My iPhone enabled.
AppleCare Price & Availability
AppleCare warranty is available for most Apple products, including Apple laptops, iPads, iPhones, Apple Watches, and more. Generally, the AppleCare price is higher for expensive devices.
AppleCare plus warranty prices for two years for a few Apple products are as follows:
- iPad, iPad Air, iPad Mini: A$99
- iPad Pro: A$199
- iPhone 14 and 14+: A$199
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: A$279
- iPhone 13: A$169
- 13" MacBook Pro: A$329
- 15-16" MacBook Pro: A$449
What Does AppleCare Cover?
AppleCare covers only brand-new Apple devices that have an active AppleCare warranty. If you want AppleCare+ for your device, you must buy it within 60 days.
AppleCare doesn't apply to Apple products you buy from unauthorized sellers or devices that aren't brand new. So if you were considering getting AppleCare for your refurbished iPad or iPhone, we have bad news.
Is Apple Care Worth It?
Whether or not you should buy AppleCare Plus depends on your usage of the device and the risk of theft in your neighborhood.
If you live somewhere with a high risk of thefts or you have a history of dropping your phones and damaging the screen, consider buying AppleCare coverage online.
AppleCare price is also significantly lower for repair services than out-of-coverage service prices.
Many people with a satisfactory experience with Apple products never need AppleCare. And we don't see an essential need for AppleCare for Apple devices less prone to accidental damages like Apple TV, Display, or HomePod.
