The Samsung Galaxy Note series comprises high-end Android-based smartphones developed and marketed by Samsung Electronics. The product line primarily focuses on pen computing instead of the Samsung S series. All Galaxy Note models ship with a stylus pen and incorporate a pressure-sensitive Wacom digitizer.
Galaxy Note models also include software features oriented towards the stylus and the devices' large screens, such as note-taking, digital scrapbooking apps, and split-screen multitasking. The Galaxy Note smartphones have been considered the first commercially successful examples of "phablets"—a class of smartphones with large screens intended to straddle the functionality of a traditional tablet with that of a phone.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 1 was released in 2012 and instantly successful. Samsung introduced a big screen (5.3 inches) in those days when a small screen (4.5 inches) of smartphones was the norm. With this additional space, Samsung also crammed a large battery for long-lasting usage, contributing to its initial success. At the time, this big-screen phone category, better known as a "phablet", was non-existent.
Thus, Samsung became the pioneer in developing and pushing this category to its limits.
The Note series also came with a digital pen for easy note-taking in your handwriting. It contrasted to the older generation (pre-2008) of smartphones that used a stylus and those Steve Jobs famously mocked at the launch of the first iPhone.
Samsung Galaxy Note kick-started the trend of large screens; it was the first phone to introduce the term Phablet in 2012. The phones are significant as the series evolved from note 1 to note 20. No more new devices are available, but these phones have their charisma and beauty.
In August 2012, note 1 was launched as a Phablet and used for both phone and tablet. The first phone offered a stylus pen with a large Super AMOLED of 5.3 inches. The resolution was pixels of 800 x 1280, and the density of pixels was 285ppi. The processor in this first device was a dual-core Qualcomm snapdragon S3 chipset clocking at 1.5 GHz.
It has 1GB of RAM, which was okay to use at that time and a battery of 2500 mAh. It was not able to deliver a better quality of call and camera. Even though criticized at first, it later became a hit and a godfather of note series.
After the first Galaxy Note became a hit, the next phone, the Galaxy Note 2, was released in 2012. This phone was upgraded in every aspect of design and specifications. It has a Super AMOLED display of 5.5 inches with pixels of 720 x 1280 resolution. It has a quad-core processor and Exynos 4412 Quad chipset. It has 2GB of RAM, ensuring it is a multitasking phone. The battery capacity is 3100 mAh, and Samsung ensures the battery has the best life. The camera takes outstanding images, the call quality is terrific, and it became a successful device with S Pen enhancement.
Launched with the new design of faux leather stitching on the back cover. It comes in two variants, the Galaxy Note 3 having a quad-core processor of 2.3 GHz and a Snapdragon 800 chipset. The Galaxy Note 3 Neo has a Hexa-core processor and an Exynos 5260 Hexa chipset. This flagship phablet offered an AMOLED display of 5.7 inches with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution, offering a pixel density of 386 PPI. The camera with 13 Megapixels at the back could shoot the video up to 4k, and the battery is 3200 mAh. The 3GB RAM enhanced the capability of multitasking with the S Pen. In 2014, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo was also released after the release of the Note 3 in 2013.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was the first device accessible with an AMOLED display having Quad HD. It also came with a metal frame compared to note 3. It is a robust handset with a Snapdragon 805 chipset and a Quad-core processor of 2.7 GHz. It has a RAM of 3GB, similar to the Note 3, with multitasking capabilities. It is a Phablet, a commendable phone offering a better camera. Also, the Note Edge came with a side screen in the same year, 2014, as the Note 4.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has an extraordinary glass and metal design. There was no support for the micro SD card, and the battery is not removable. It is an excellent device that was released in 2015 with an appealing design. It has a tremendous screen-to-body size ratio, boasting an Exynos 7420 Octa chipset. It has 4GB of RAM and an updated version of an S pen.
Samsung discontinued production of the Galaxy Note 7. It came with faulty batteries, which caused several devices to heat up and catch fire. Many users complained, and for this reason, Samsung decided to stop production of the Galaxy Note7. It is designed to be curved at the edges with an AMOLED display that has vivid colors. It has an Iris scanner, an internal memory of 64GB and an improved S pen.
The Galaxy Note 8 was a brave restart after the failure of the Note 7. This phone was rigorously scrutinized for the safety of the battery, its aluminum frame and its glass front and back. Samsung incorporates a more prominent display screen, a brilliant camera, and extra storage space.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has a larger battery of about 4000 mAh, improving the battery life for a full day. Powered by the chipset Snapdragon 845 and has 6GB and 8GB of RAM. It has an internal storage of 128 GB and 512 GB. The S pen can be paired with Bluetooth LE. You can utilize the S pen as the wireless controller to snap pictures, move through the slideshow presentation, and handle the media playback.
In 2019, the Samsung Note 10 was released along with the Note 10+ and Note 10 5G. The Note 10 has a difference in screen size compared to the Note10+. The Galaxy Note 10 features an exceptional design, with its display stretching to the edges and a punch-hole camera positioned at the top. The bezels are skinny, and the phone comes in five colors: Aura Glow, White, Black, Aura Pink, and Aura Red. It has a Snapdragon 855 chipset with the best performance.
The stylus pen features a new design and includes several functions, such as controlling the camera.
The Galaxy Note 20 features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400. The brightness is excellent for indoor and outdoor usage. The Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on Note 20 protects the screen from accidental drops and scratches. The glass front and plastic back feel good in the hands. Depending on your region and the variant you buy, it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 5G+ or the Exynos 990. The performance is exceptional, and the phone can be upgraded to the Android 13.
